Doctors threaten strike starting from March 31st

National Association of Resident Doctors threaten strike starting from March 31st because the Government has refused to compensate the families of Doctors who died of COVID-19.

This allegation is confirmed by the National President of NARD, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi despite N500bn released by the Federal Government for COVID-19 response.

There is little wonder why Doctors threaten strike starting from March 31st. It’s almost a year since Boss Mustapha (Chairman of Presidential Task force on COVID-19) spoke about life insurance for health workers, he said;

In recognition of the danger to which our frontline health workers are exposed to, government is working with other stakeholders to structure medical and life insurance cover for their protection.

So, since the money has been released Doctors are wondering why the life insurance is not yet disbursed to the deceased families.

Also in the news; An American nurse sues the Nigeria Police Commissioner for Lagos state for an unlawful act after detaining her without trial. The nurse named Kari-Ann R’ouke was in the airport when she was being informed that her Covid-19 Test result has expired and was asked to sleep at the airport for a new Covid-19 test. However, it was later revealed that the Partner she came to meet at Nigeria died whereas, she left him before his death.

Kari’s counsel Ebun-Ola Adegboruwa filed this lawsuit against the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department.
