U.S Anti-Abortionists Advise African Women on Abortion Pill Reversal

Abortion Pill Reversal

Over the years, U.S Anti-abortionists have been working on the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) and have come up with advise to African women. Abortion Pill Reversal is a drug given to pregnant women who used abortion pills but no longer sure they want to go through it anymore.

Abortion Pill Reversal

APR was first developed by a California-based family physician. An American anti-abortionists are promoting it to women across the world like Nigeria, Uganda and South Africa.

When a pregnant woman uses Mifepristone (an abortion pill), higher dosage of Progestrone can reverse the abortion.

In 2019, U.S. trial to test the effectiveness and safety of APR (Abortion Pill Reversal) was halted after some participants were admitted to hospital with severe hemorrhaging. Global experts say that it is unproven that taking high doses of progesterone is effective in stopping a medical abortion.

In Nigeria and Uganda patients were sent dosage instructions and referred to local anti-abortion groups to get help obtaining the medication. There are studies that show the treatment is effective although not standard practice.

Dr. Margit Endler said:

The problem is that there is no evidence to support that the ‘abortion pill reversal’ works and telling women that it does is misleading and wrong

There are also advises that the patient should be seen and observed by the Doctor before given APR recommendation

According to Dr. Judy Kluge said:

I definitely think that giving the ‘treatment’ without seeing the patient personally is not recommended. Who would be ultimately responsible for the outcome of this pregnancy and foetus?

So, any doctor who prescribes APR (Abortion Pill Reversal) will be held responsible for any short or long term complications.

Pamela Merritt, executive Director of U.S Medical Students for choice spoke about APR (Abortion Pill Reversal) saying the ‘treatment’ is “a direct violation of the oath that every physician takes”

A Spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) said APR (Abortion Pill Reversal) is “associated with a high risk of serious bleeding and consequently dangerous for women, as well as ineffective”.

Therefore, U.S Anti-abortionists advise African women on abortion pill reversal is that anyone who need to use APR (Abortion Pill Reversal) should consult the Doctor first in order to avoid damage.
