Kano State’s capital is Kano. The state capital is also the second most populous city in Nigeria. Furthermore, Kano state is the second largest industrial center after Lagos State.


1. Aliko Dangote – $8.7 Billion

Aliko Dangote was born on 10 April, 1957. His father is Mohammed Dangote. He is a business tycoon; owner of Dangote group (that was set up in 1977) and other diversified businesses. He attended Sheikh Ali Kumasi Madrasa. He also schooled at Capital High School Kano and Sheikh Ali Kumasi Madrasa, followed by Capital High School Kano and Al-Azhar University, Cairo.

2. Abdulsamad Rabiu – $4.6 Billion

Abdulsamad Rabiu is the founder of BUA Group, a Nigerian conglomerate. BUA Cement Plc trades on Nigerian Stock. He owns 98.5% of his company and certainly one of the richest in Kano State. The land he inherited from his father in 1988 is what he used to set up his business. He imports Iron, Steel and chemicals.

BUA group is now one of the most important diversified group in Nigeria. They work on  food (sugar and oil) and infrastructures (cement, ports, real estate). In 2016, he divested its flour and pasta assets to Olam.


3. Rabiu Kwankaso – $950 Million

Rabiu Kwankaso is a politician. He is the former Governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015. Thereafter, he lose his re-election in 2003. He was appointed as the first Minister of Defense of the fourth Republic.

Furthermore, In 2011 he was re-elected as Kano state Governor. Also, in 2015 he was elected as a senator under All Progressive Congress (APC).  He represented Kano central Senatorial district. Moreover, in 2018 he contested in the Presidential primaries but lost to Atiku Abubakar.

4. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – $480 Million

 

Sanusi Lamido was born in Kano on 31st July 1961. He is from a royal family and grandson of Mohammadu Sanusi 1. He attended International University of Africa (1997), Ahmadu Bello University (1981) and King’s College, Lagos (1977). On June 8 2014, he succeeded Ado Bayero (his grand uncle) and became the new Emir. Sanusi Lamido spent most of his reign advocating for cultural reform. Until he was dethroned on 9th March 2020.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is also a traditional and religious leader. He is the leader of the Tijaniyyah Sufi which is the second largest Sufi. Moreso, he served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (2009 – 2014).


5. Ghali Umar Na’Abba – $120 Million

Ghali Umar Na’Abba was born in Kano on September 27, 1958. He schooled at Jakara Primary School, Rumfa College, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. After his National Youth Service he joined his father’s chain of companies. The business entails importation of goods, manufacturing to publishing.

Additionally, he served in Na’Abba Commercial Trading Company Limited. Also, Managing Director of Manifold Limited, Director of Quick Prints Limited and Managing Director Hinterland Resources Limited. He is also a politician. He was an influential speaker of the House of Representatives.
