Nigerians abroad funding secessionist groups. The Federal Government<\/a> on Tuesday, July 27 accused some Nigerians in diaspora of allegedly funding the secessionist groups which have been portraying the country in bad light.<\/p>\n

\"NigeriansLai Mohammad, the minister of information and culture has asked Nigerians living abroad to stop sponsoring secessionist groups.<\/p>\n

The Minister made the appeal in Abuja<\/a> when he received members of NIDO, UK chapter, on a courtesy visit. He said, “Instead of contributing their allocation to the country\u2019s development, all you hear from a section of Nigerians in diaspora and their allies back home are fake news and untrue allegations.<\/p>\n

“I, therefore, want to use this opportunity to appeal to NIDO to seize the initiative from those who are bent on painting Nigeria<\/a> bad in the comity of nations.<\/p>\n

Lai Mohammed also asked members of the group to complement Government\u2019s<\/a> effort, rather than propagate fake narratives and “untrue” allegations of religious persecution, political marginalization, and human rights abuses.<\/p>\n

“It is alarming and disappointing that some Nigerians in Diaspora still rely on platforms that peddle fake news and misinformation about Nigeria<\/a>,” The Minister said.<\/p>\n

“As an organized and well-connected group, I implore NIDO to leverage its contacts in government<\/a> circles, parliamentary groups and global think tanks in world capitals to help change the narrative.<\/p>\n

“I also urge them to sweep the carpet off the feet of secessionist groups, insurgents and anarchists who are bent on pushing false narratives to portray Nigeria<\/a> in a bad light.<\/p>\n

“I have no doubt that you will take this call seriously and do everything in your power to change the narrative for the better.” Lai Mohammed added.<\/p>\n
