NCDC records COVID-19 spike after confirming SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant in Nigeria. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) records 161 new cases of COVID-19<\/a>. This spike has major effect in Lagos State. 153 cases in Lagos State, two in Gombe State, one case in Oyo State, on in Rivers State and four cases in FCT.<\/p>\n

Moreso, the Governor of Lagos State<\/a> has responded to NCDC Record about COVID-19 spike.\u00a0Sanwo-Olu urged worship centers to be particularly vigilant, advising them not to be carried away by the illusion that all activities were back to normal.<\/p>\n

It is understandable that many are tired and want their old, pre-pandemic lives to return. Unfortunately, we do not have a choice in this regard, and fatigue is not an option. We cannot afford to be tired, frustrated or distracted. Without the cooperation of the public at large, we stand the risks of losing both lives and livelihood, on a devastating scale.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He also added that;<\/p>\n

The enemy (COVID-19<\/a>) is formidable and opportunistic. The pandemic will only go as far as we allow it. Having triumphed over the first and second waves, we must now find within ourselves new reserves of energy to quell this emerging third wave before it snowballs out of control.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Therefore, the total confirmed case of COVID-19<\/a> in Nigeria is 168, 713. Which means 164,476 have recovered, while 2,124 have unfortunately died. This information was publicized few days after NCDC detected a confirmed case with the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant.<\/p>\n

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has detected a confirmed case with the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, also known as lineage B.1.617.2,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The health agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The variant was detected in a traveler to Nigeria, following the routine travel test required of all international travelers and genomic sequencing at the NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Abuja.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

However, NCDC \u00a0Record on COVID-19 spike should not cause panicking because the Federal Government has measures available to combat the disease. Nigerians are advised to adhere to the safety protocols.<\/p>\n

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Delta variant has an increased transmissibility. It has raised concerns across the globe.<\/p>\n

The variant has also been linked to a surge in other countries’ cases. where it is the dominant strain in circulation<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
