NDLEA (National Drug Enforcement Agency<\/a>) detains over N2b worth illicit drugs at Murtala Mohammed International Airport<\/a> (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos<\/a> and the three suspected traffickers was arrested immediately.<\/p>\n

Aniede Chimezie Bright was arrested on Sunday, 28th March during the outward clearance of passengers on Air Marroc. He was caught with 7.1kg of Methamphetamine hidden in food spices and packed in a Swiss polo suitcase. The illicit drug was to be taken to Spain with street value of over N2 billion<\/p>\n

Bamidele Babatunde Adeyemo was also caught with some illicit drugs at SAHCO export at the airport with 800 grammes of Cannabis Sativa while some operatives also seized 19.950kg of green leaves suspected to be Khat. This illicit drug was smartly hidden in foodstuff bound to be taken to Dubai, UAE.<\/p>\n

Asonye Christian was also arrested in suspected to be in connection with the 800 grammes of Cannabis. Investigations are still ongoing to find out the owner of the Khat leaves arrested.<\/p>\n

Unarguably, the closure of borders occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic is responsible for the surge in the price of these drugs. For instance, the price of meth in Australia had increased from 200 dollars to 600 dollars per gram due to supply cut, hence the desperation by the traffickers and barons alike.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Chairman\/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa commends the men and officers of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) and said the agency maximum commitment to sanction illicit drugs traffickers across Nigeria is commendable.<\/p>\n

NDLEA has continue to show commitment to their work in order to ensure people do not abuse drugs by detaining Illicit Drugs.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0National Drug Law Enforcement Agency\u00a0(NDLEA) head office is in Ikoyi, Lagos. Itis a Federal agency in Nigeria assigned to eliminate the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting, and trafficking of hard drugs. The agency was established by the promulgation of Decree Number 48 of 1989. The NDLEA is present in international airports, seaports and border crossing, in order to ensure the eradication of cannabis\u00a0by destroying plantings. The NDLEA also targets the leaders of narcotics and money laundering organizations.<\/p>\n
